The Jaisalmer Heritage and Desert Explorer is for travellers who want more than the highlights. It spends unhurried time in the fort and havelis, then heads out to the older heritage sites around the city: the lake temple at Amar Sagar, the Jain temples of Lodurva, the abandoned villages of Kuldhara and Khaba, and finally the open dunes near Sam.
It suits photographers, history enthusiasts and repeat visitors who want to understand how the desert shaped the region’s architecture, trade and daily life. The pace is steady but not rushed, and every stop can be lengthened or shortened on the day.
A full morning in Jaisalmer Fort allows time for the palace area, the cluster of Jain temples, the ramparts and the residential lanes. After lunch, the havelis of Patwon, Nathmal and Salim Singh show how merchant families used carved sandstone to display their wealth.
A local guide is recommended for this tour. Guide charges are included only when listed in the quotation; otherwise, guides can be hired at the fort.
Amar Sagar is a lake and garden complex with a Jain temple, while Lodurva was an earlier capital of the region and is known for its carved temple. Bada Bagh has rows of royal cenotaphs on a ridge, and Kuldhara and Khaba are villages abandoned long ago, with Khaba Fort giving wide views over the ruins.
These sites are spread out, so they are linked by road in a logical loop that ends at the Sam Sand Dunes before sunset.
Some travellers ask to visit Tanot Mata temple and the Longewala war memorial. This is a long day trip and is subject to current access rules, permissions and road conditions. It can be quoted as an extra day; see the Tanot Mata and Longewala day trip for details.
This tour suits adults and older children who enjoy history and are comfortable with several stops a day. Families with young children may prefer the Jaisalmer Family Holiday, which has a lighter schedule.
