Desert Camp in Jaisalmer

Sunset, folk music, dinner and a night under the stars near the Sam Sand Dunes.

The desert camp experience

A night at a desert camp in Jaisalmer is the easiest way to experience the Thar after dark. Most camps are located around the Sam Sand Dunes, where you can watch the sun set over the sand, enjoy a cultural evening and sleep under a sky full of stars, far from the lights of the city.

We arrange Sam Sand Dunes desert camp stays together with your transfers and activities. We do not own or operate camps; we work with camps in the area and share their tent types, facilities and inclusions so you can choose the one that suits you. Final inclusions depend on the package and camp you select.

Swiss tents and accommodation options

Camps offer a range of accommodation. You can enquire about:

  • Swiss tents with beds, attached bathrooms and basic furnishings
  • Luxury or deluxe tents with more space and better furnishings, where available
  • Cottages or mud huts in traditional style at some camps
  • Standard tents for simpler, budget-friendly stays
  • Family tents or adjacent tents for groups travelling together

Cultural evening

Many camps host a cultural programme in the evening. Guests sit around a central stage or bonfire while local performers present music and dance traditions of western Rajasthan. The programme, its length and its format vary by camp and season, so we confirm what is offered when you choose your camp.

Folk music and dance

Performances often feature Rajasthani folk singers with instruments such as the dholak, kamaicha and khartal, and dances such as Kalbelia. The music carries far in the quiet desert night and is one of the highlights of a camp stay for many visitors. Some camps invite guests to join the dancing at the end.

Meal arrangements

Camp packages usually include dinner and breakfast, and some include evening snacks and tea. Food is typically Rajasthani and North Indian, served as a buffet or set meal, with vegetarian options. Jain meals, non-vegetarian dishes and children’s food can be requested, depending on the camp. Meal plans vary, so they are listed in your quotation rather than assumed.

Camel and jeep safari options

A camel safari at sunset is the most popular addition to a camp stay. For more adventure, add a jeep safari, quad biking or parasailing. Couples often book a dinner on the dunes. Activities are optional, run by local operators and confirmed with timings and suitability before booking.

Transfer arrangements

We arrange transfers from your hotel in Jaisalmer, the railway station or the airport to the camp and back. On the way, you can stop at Bada Bagh, Kuldhara or Khaba Fort. After check-out, you can return to the city or continue directly on a one way taxi to your next destination.

Couple, family and group stays

Couples often choose a quieter camp and a private dinner. Families may prefer adjacent tents, simple food for children and a short camel ride. Groups can book several tents together and may ask about a private cultural programme or bonfire. Tell us who is travelling and we will suggest suitable options.
