The Jaisalmer City and Desert Tour gives you three days to explore the Golden City at a comfortable pace. The first night is spent in Jaisalmer, close to the fort and the lake, and the second at a desert camp near the Sam Sand Dunes. Between the two, you see the fort, the havelis, the royal cenotaphs at Bada Bagh and the abandoned village of Kuldhara.
This is our most balanced suggestion for first-time visitors. It avoids rushing through the fort, leaves time for local markets and food, and gives the desert an evening of its own. All road travel is handled by your Jaisalmer sightseeing taxi, with pickup and drop at your arrival point.
Why three days work well
Jaisalmer rewards slow travel. The fort is a living neighbourhood with temples, homes and shops, and the havelis are best seen without watching the clock. With the first afternoon and a full morning set aside for the city, you can visit Patwon Ki Haveli, Nathmal Ki Haveli and Salim Singh Ki Haveli and still return to Gadisar Lake for the evening light.
On the desert day, the route towards Sam passes Bada Bagh and can include Kuldhara, so the drive becomes part of the sightseeing rather than just a transfer.
Hotel and camp combinations
For the city night, we can quote heritage-style hotels in or near the fort, comfortable hotels in the newer parts of town, or budget options. For the desert night, camps near Sam offer different tent types and facilities. The final choice is yours, based on what is available for your dates.
If you prefer not to stay in the desert, the package can be quoted with two city nights and an evening trip to the dunes, returning to your hotel after dinner.
Adding experiences
Popular additions are a camel safari at sunset, a jeep safari over the dunes, or quad biking for a short burst of adventure. Each is optional and confirmed in advance with timings, suitability and weather conditions.
Continuing your journey
Many travellers continue to Jodhpur, Bikaner or Udaipur after this tour. A one way taxi from Jaisalmer can be added on day three, so you check out of the camp, collect your luggage and head straight to your next city.
Day-wise suggested itinerary
Day 1
Arrival and Gadisar Lake
Pickup from the railway station, airport, bus stand or hotel and transfer to your Jaisalmer hotel. After some rest, visit Gadisar Lake in the late afternoon. The evening is free for the markets around the fort. Overnight in Jaisalmer.
Day 2
Fort, havelis and the desert
Morning at Jaisalmer Fort, including the palace area and Jain temples when open. Continue to Patwon Ki Haveli, Nathmal Ki Haveli and Salim Singh Ki Haveli. After lunch, drive towards Sam via Bada Bagh and, if time allows, Kuldhara. Optional sunset camel or jeep safari, check-in at the desert camp, cultural evening where offered, dinner and overnight.
Day 3
Sunrise and departure
Sunrise on the dunes, breakfast and check-out. Drive back to Jaisalmer for last-minute shopping, then drop at the railway station, airport or bus stand, or continue on a one-way taxi to your next destination.
